News You Can UseSildenafil is Viagra!

Sildenafil, a phosphodiesterase inhibitor, was originally developed to treat Pulmonary Hypertension (PHT), particularly in children. The 20 mg tablet was sold under the trade name Revatio, and was later sold as Viagra for erectile dysfunction in 25, 50, and 100 mg tablets. Today, it is our most effective treatment for PHT in dogs! Initial dosing should be 1-2 mg/Kg BID and can be increased as high as 3mg/Kg TID. The dose should be guided by reduction in clinical signs and reduction in the estimated pulmonary arterial pressure on echocardiogram. Revatio recently became generic and, compared to Viagra, is less expensive. Nevertheless, the cost of Sildenafil varies greatly from pharmacy to pharmacy.
