News You Can Use – Pimobendan in cats?
Thus far, the positive inotropic and vasodilator pimobendan (Vetmedin) has been marketed and labeled for use in canine patients with advanced degenerative valve disease and dilated cardiomyopathy. Nevertheless, there is increasing information that pimobendan may have benefit in some feline patients with cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure (CHF). Previous publications in the Journal of Veterinary Cardiology (Macgregor et al., 2011) and JAVMA (Reina-Doreste et al., 2014) discuss the use and potential benefits including a prolonged survival in some feline patients when administered pimobendan. If you have questions regarding the optimal management and use of pimobendan in your feline patients with CHF contact Drs. Wood and Bottorff at Cardiology Northwest!
